question Dragynmyst : What kind of support do I need an external load bearing wall removed I am remodeling my kitchen by putting in a section on 8′x8 ‘d an outside wall? planning a joint terrace space. I have to remove the expansion of about 8 “of the retaining wall in the kitchen and wonder what kind of support would be for the duration required. I was thinking 2 2×8 should be enough, but I was hoping some advice or information. Best answer: Wed response DIRT by DR
what I do is build a temporary wall to end 2 feet from the exterior wall, within the existing kitchen and even in space with 8×8 studs 16 “on center, with 2 – 2×4 ceiling and 1 to 2 x 4 on the ground, remove existing wall, I’d be 2-2 x 12″ s with 1 / 2 ” cons-plated 2×4 between up and down the entire length of 2x 12 “s will be for a head, it does not cost much, and you have adequate support to each side of the opening to install 2 – s 2×4, standard length, different levels of cased hole or the door is sitting on 2×12 shorter after header install and remove temporary walls and then go to conversion
